3 SXSW Must-Dos from CityView at Soco Austin Apartments

  |     |   Uncategorized

It’s no secret that CityView at SoCo has the ideal location for people moving to their first apartments in south Austin. However, did you know that we’re also helping new residents get acclimated to Austin beyond South Congress avenue? Our first blog has arrived, and we’re starting things off with a guide to some lesser known things to do and see during your first SXSW experience here at CityView at SoCo.

Here, you’ll find three things to take advantage of during SXSW 2017. They’re all within walking distance, and they’re all affordable. Check them out below and be sure to follow CityView at SoCo on social media to stay up to date with future blog posts!

The Free SXSW Puppy Party

The Lustre Pearl on Rainey St. is hosting a party! You weren’t invited, but your puppy was. Come be your dog’s +1 on Saturday, March 18th from 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM.

Need more reasons that that? Well for starters, this is a chance for your dog to socialize with other Austin pups, which is always important for a dog’s personality and social skills. Secondly, it's a chance for you to bring your dog-less human friends and convince them to buy one of the dozens of rescue dogs that will be on-site and available for adoption, courtesy of Austin Pets Alive! No sane person can resist adopting an adorable rescue dog at a bar. Last but not least, there will be free drinks for humans and free toys for dogs if you show the bartender that you have the Bumble app on your phone.

Actually, we can’t think of any reasons not to go, especially when Rainey St. is so close to our south Austin apartments. This party isn’t restricted to just puppies either; any and all dogs are invited. Just don’t try to sneak your cat past the bouncer.

A Real-Life Los Pollos Hermanos Restaurant from Breaking Bad

We’ll tell you right now, this won’t be that exciting if you haven’t seen Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul.  Anyone who doesn’t know about Walter White’s drug  front from the shows will just think this is a random fast food establishment in a vacant parking lot downtown.

The rest of us know better. Start geeking out now, because the first and only real-life Los Pollos Hermanos is popping up in downtown Austin on the corner of 5th and Colorado. That’s certainly within walking distance of CityView at Soco, and you could probably even make it there in a full HAZMAT suit if you’re that kind of fan.

This location has been previously used for similar PR stunts, and the star of Better Call Saul is scheduled to speak at SXSW this year. It all adds up to a legitimate Los Pollos Hermanos in downtown Austin, for the next few days at least.

Mazda is Giving Free Rides Around Austin

Okay this isn’t necessarily an event, but it's still awesome. Give your credit card a break from the Fasten and Fare charges for the next week and a half by getting free rides around town from Mazda.

Just register online, pick up your wristband at the convention center downtown, and hop in the next SXSW branded “Mazda Express” that you see. Don’t worry, you’ll definitely be able to identify which Mazdas are for rides and which ones are personal; just look for the “Mazda Express” logo on the vehicle.

With all the money you save on rides, you might one day be able to afford an actual SXSW badge!
