Develop a bedtime routine
Believe it or not, it is possible to get ready for bed and be productive at the same time. All you have to do is do the same thing every night. If you do something simple like wipe down your surfaces or load your dishwasher every night before bed, your body will eventually start to associate that activity with bedtime. All you have to do it get into the habit of developing a nightly routine!
Take a cold shower before bed
A lot of people end their evenings with a warm shower or a bath, but those two activities actually won’t help you fall asleep faster. See, your body needs to cool down before you can fall asleep. Taking a cold shower is a good way to help your body cool down faster in anticipation of falling asleep. Plus, taking a cold shower every night is just another nightly routine you can develop that will help remind your body that it’s time to go to bed.
Don't go to bed hungry or full
If you try to fall asleep while hungry, you’ll just end up getting up in the middle of the night to get a midnight snack. That won’t help either though, because you don’t want to be digesting food while you’re trying to fall asleep. Your body can’t fall asleep while it’s digesting food, so try to avoid eating a big meal (or any meal at all, really) within a few hours of bedtime.
Get rid of all the little lights
If you look around your room at night, it’s likely that you’ll notice a lot of little lights on the ground. These lights come from your power strips, your phone chargers, your gaming consoles and sometimes your cell phone. Every little bit of light in your room will affect the quality of your sleep, so it’s best to do whatever you can to eliminate even the smallest little sources of light. LED light is especially intrusive for people who are trying to sleep, so it’s important to block those lights on your electronics.
